Yes, We are those people

and it is our own fault

I know I have been slow to add to this site, and I am trying to do better, but sometimes it is hard to know what news to latch on to and expand into an op-ed piece here. Frankly there is so much that keeps happening lately it is almost hard to pick and choose. But I promise to do better.

So that brings us to last week, the week where someone took a stand and said enough is enough, baseball is boring enough as it is, don't make it more boring by having Congress play the sport.

Too soon?

Sorry but at the end of the day when dealing with an institution that will carelessly vote away our dollars and vote away our freedoms and on top of it vote away young Americans to fight in a land most of us can't find on a map, I have a hard time feeling either sympathy or empathy for them. OK yes it is sad and disgusting, but guess what, we have all brought the political discourse down to this, and we deserve it.

As a country, we may have the biggest truck, the loudest radio, and the fullest fridge, but we are still the asshole redneck of the neighborhood. We have turned our political discourse into a mixture of reality show and rabid social media addiction. Nothing gets done like this except Mark Zucherberg laughing all the way to the bank. We are so focused on screwing over the "other team" that we are missing how deeply we have fisted our own asses, without lube.

So now someone from the left has exercised his second amendment rights (because our first amendment rights have turned into a bad joke) and sought to use the sound of gun powder as his voice. Granted it is slightly an anomoly that it is now the "hippie" side of the room taking up arms, but maybe that is good. Perhaps all sides need to get that frustrated with government to understand what the second amendment is really about.

No it is not about attacking anybody in cold blood at any time you choose. It is about reminding the modern political class that in the end they rule over an armed populace that allows them their place. The unfortunate part of the modern world is that we allow them their place through laziness and complacency. But I don't want to go off on the subject of the second amendment.

What I want to talk about is we are the most violent people of the most violent species. I want to let that sink in to everyone as an absolute fact. As a species we can basically kill anything and everything on the planet, and for the most part have whenever it suited us. Often times we stopped just before the brink of complete extinction but rarely willingly.

Then when we come to America itself, no other country has faught as many wars as we have in our short time. Nor does any other country spend as much on the machines of war than we do. We justify it as our place as a global leader but what are we really leading when our internal politics are in the shambles that they are.

So you get us to where we are now, last week's incident. Sadly I view it as just a natural extension from the vitriol already expressed. We just had the most pathetic choice of candidates to elect, and the winner, a reality star. One has to seriously question why more people aren't flying even further off the handle.
